Hibiscus And Peppermint Herbal Tea/ Hibiscus and Peppermint Herbal Iced Tea

Hibiscus and Peppermint Herbal Tea is my big time favourite after a long swim, or even on a bad cold day.

Herbal Tea are a big time favourite for the freshness they bring and the convenience they have to be made in no time, a tea bag out of a sachet/ or a few spices/ herbs dropped in hot boiling water in the cup,  and sipped straight from the cup.

To me While I am around in my kitchen, or my kitchen garden, a lot of herbs/spices, keep catching my attention, I grab them to make myself a quick cup of infusion. It’s like a great refresher  to sip through the cup while at work / or waiting for the dinner or after a tiring day.

Hibiscus is one flower which has always fascinated me as its bright red colour just peps you at the sight of it….and at the time of bloom, the flower-laden tree is an eye candy. They have something extremely romantic about them.

Hibiscus is edible, and its medicinal properties are many, right from external application to internal consumption.

I like to use it for the color it can impart in an infusion and the sweet aroma it brings. And if list the benefits the Hibiscus flower had in terms of health, You will start looking at the red pretty flower n an altogether different way.

Hibiscus is rich in Vit C and It is known to relieve high blood pressure. Hibiscus is anti-inflammatory and cures liver disorders.

Hibiscus has an amazing effect in working up the body metabolism and if consumed regularly, hibiscus infusion helps in weight loss.

Another wonder herb, which I grew recently in my kitchen garden is peppermint.

Mention of Peppermint brings the taste of the POLO rings that we pop in as a mouth freshener or reminds of the cooling Gheeya kee Burfee which I loved as a child, as it uses to have a lovely pepperminty flavour, and mom will bring it from Naani  ( granny’s) home in summers.

I am love with this herb and like to chew a leaf or two while at work in the garden.

Due to its cooling properties, I liked the idea of combining Peppermint and Hibiscus In the form of an infusion.

This Infusion can be cooled down and serve chilled. I have it hot, when I return from my swim, As it opens up all my blocked respiratory system, after a recent cough and cold episode. The cooling properties of peppermint is not to be mistaken prohibited for a cold and cough as it works for keeping the summer heat in check, not aggravating the cold at all…

A glass of hot water and u can just drop in a few leaves of peppermint and a flower of hibiscus. In two minutes your amazing sip of Hibiscus and Peppermint Tea is ready.  I like just a hint of it and peppermint in the hot infusion without sugar/ honey.

For the iced tea version, add more hibiscus flowers and allow to steep for longer…This brings a red tinge to the tea. Refrigerate it and it makes a great mocktail. You need to add honey/ sugar.

Hibiscus And Peppermint is an infused herbal tea, which can be consumed hot or cold as per the liking. It has curative and soothing properties. Hibiscus flowers and Peppermint leaves can be consumed fresh or dried.

Instructions
  1. Wash Hibiscus flowers and peppermint leaves. remove the calyx/ the green leafy part attached to the lower, and the thin pistil which is the thin tubular structure in the center of the flower carrying pollen grains. Dried flowers can be used as it is.
  2. Boil water in a pot.
  3. Once the water is boiled, add the hibiscus and the peppermint to it, cover and allow to steep.
  4. Add Honey And Lemon.
  5. Serve hot/ chill to serve like cold iced tea and serve over the ice.
Recipe Notes

Hibiscus is prohibited during, Pregnancy/ Lactation/ Fertility seekers.

Increase the number of hibiscus flowers if you wish to get a deep red colour.

I have used dried hibiscus flowers as I had them, In this case I used 1/4 packed cups dried flowers.  Steep for a little longer in case using dried flowers.

Do not confuse between mint and peppermint leaves.

Use of any Extra peppermint leaves will leave it bitter.

Hibiscus and peppermint

Serve it hot in cold weather and chill to use as iced tea for summers.
