Detox Summer Drink with Cucumber, Celery and Apple

Detox is a big term nowadays. You say Detox and hundreds of thoughts cross your mind.  Body detox is recommended to Detox when u are sick, you do it if are on a healthy diet.

“I am following a detox diet today”, said my friend who is apparently trying to lose some weight for her next vacation. And I wonder why do u need to detox once in a while. We collect toxins every single minute, then why not every day, something that just cleanses you from within.

Detoxification” I first heard when I was working as a consultant with a renowned Nutritionist, helping people to lose weight.  What sounded like a fad has stood tests of time and has emerged as a clear winner in a simple and effective way to get rid of body toxins.

Now, what it carried around it as a fad are the methods to get to a glass of detox water. Fancy diffuser bottles, overnight infusion of vegetables and herbs, to make a glass of detox liquid, I find they are tricks of the trade of weight loss industry.

I know water is best to detoxify, but how grabbing a few things which have diuretic, anti-inflammatory, cooling properties and churning them to make a glass of pure detox liquid.

With summers in action, and heat and dirt on an all-time high. I have this allergy creeping in which goes uncontrolled if not checked in time. And hydration anyways is a subject of concern due to high sweating and salt loss due to exercise.  I am always on a look out of what can be churned to give me a tasty, effortless, great detox drink.

I find cucumber, due to its cooling properties and high water content makes a great choice to blend into a juice with minimal wastage, and to get some right flavours, I was experimenting with some herbs.

I found mint tasted good but very monotonous and standard choice. so chose celery as I had some leftover from the fridge and found that it added to a great taste from the drink.

My kids made faces as to them it was not a kiddy drink. So to next time, I tweaked it by throwing in an apple…And voila a great tasting, not too sweet detox drink came into existence.

Though I have had tries many detox variants in smoothies, juices, But this is one I find refreshing, tasty and serves the purpose of detox drink also.

Variations are always welcome, and so is this recipe till we discover something new while meeting requirements of my kids taste buds or my mood swings….

This is cooling summer drink, also has detoxification properties and helps get rid of free radicals in the body, and in turn, helps in weight loss. The apple gives natural sweetness and celery gives the antioxidant properties along with cucumber which is a natural source to fight water retention. It is safe for all age groups and in conditions like pregnancy, and lactation

  1. Wash and peel the cucumber, decore apple and blend all of them with celery in a blender.
  2. Sieve it to obtain clear drink.
  3. Add lemon juice and serve chilled.
Recipe Notes

Detox drink

I like to have it along with the fiber. Straining gives a clear drink

It can be diluted by adding water.

You can add a pinch of salt if desired.

It is best consumed mid-morning or evening in between the meals.

Avoid storing it for longer than 5-6 hours, have it fresh.
